Dried black soldier fly larvae make a fantastic wild bird feed. It is well known that insects makeup a natural part of many wild birds’ diets. Packed with protein, fats and fibre it makes an excellent addition to grains and nuts.
Insect frass or manure makes an excellent plant feed. Like compost or other types of animal manure, frass contains many relevant nutrients and micronutrients, as well as chitin, which stimulate the growth of beneficial bacteria in soil. Having an interesting NPK profile (nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium), it has great potential as an upcycled fertilising product (e.g. organic fertiliser, compost material or soil improver). These properties make frass a valuable solution for gardeners, who can incorporate it into their fertilisation strategies.

Fish Feed
Black soldier fly are excellent quality feed for a variety of pets, such as:
Reptile Feed: fed live to dried geckos, chameleons, agamas, water dragons, monitors, and many others thrive on the feed due to their naturally high calcium content.
Fish Feed: can be fed live or dried to many exotic fish. Unlike mealworms, which have a relatively hard shell, black soldier flies are much easier to digest and have a low-fat content offering an excellent all-round feed.
Wild Bird Feed: insects are a natural food source for many animals and exotic birds as they provide the nutrients they need naturally.
Other feed: Several businesses are using insect protein as a component from pet food to feed dogs and cats.
Many prepared baits commonly used by anglers contain high quantities of fishmeal. You can use insect protein as a very effective alternative to this with better environmental credentials. Black soldier fly larvae also works as a great hook bait as aposed to house fly and bluebottle larvae.
